Padum to Lamayuru Trek

Duration : 17 Night /18 Days

The trek across the rugged Zanskar Range from Padum to Lamayuru on the Srinagar - Leh highway usually completed in ten to 17 days is a hugely popular but very demanding long distance route not to be attempted as a first time trek nor without adequate preparation ponies and a guide.

Day 01 : Delhi

Arrive New Delhi International airport.
On arrival, the guest will be met by our representative and transferred to hotel.

Day 02 : Delhi - Leh to

Delhi - Leh (3500 m) by plane. Afternoon at leisure. We can visit the palace and the gompa of Leh and the Stock royal palace.

Leh : Leh has nonetheless retained a tranquil side, and is a pleasant place to unwind after a long bus journey. Attraction in and around the town itself include the former palace and Namgyal Tsemo gompa, perched amid strings of prayer flags above the narrow dusty streets of the old quarter. A short walk north across the fields, the small monastery at Sankar harbours accomplished modern Tantric murals and a thousand-headed Avalokitesvara deity. Leh is also good base for longer day-trip out into the Indus valley. Among the string of picturesque villages and gompas within reach by bus are shey, site of a derelict seventeenth-century palace, and the spectacular Tikse gompa.

Day3: Leh

Day 04 Leh - Kargil

After Breakfast drive to Kargil, Kargil mainly serves as an ideal base station for adventure activities like trekking, mountaineering, camping, river rafting etc. In high Himalayan Valleys. It is also a base for taking shorter excursions to Mulbek where the chief attraction is a 9-m high rock sculpture depicting the future Buddha. Kargil also offers some interesting walks along the river bank and up the hillside. The best among these is the one leading to Goma Kargil along a 2-km long winding road which, passing through some of the most picturesque parts of the town, presents breathtaking views of the mountain stream.

Day 05 Kargil - Padum

After Breakfast drive to Padum Padum  is 240 km to the south of Kargil comes as a bit of an anticlimax. Instead of the picturesque Zanskari village you might expect, the region's administrative headquarters and principal road head turns out to be a desultory collection of crumbling mud and concrete cubes, oily truck  park and in roofed government buildings.

Day 06 Padum - Karsha (3600m) in 3h.

A pleasant walk through fields. On the way we will visit Pepiting monastery and the Karsha Gompa--one of the most important in Zanskar and dating back to the 15th century. We have beautiful panoramic vistas of the full Himalayan range.

Day 07 Karsha - Pishu (3470m) in 5h.

We progress along the Zanskar river.

Day 08 Pishu - Hanumil (3380m) in 5h.

An easy-going walk along the right bank of the river takes us to Rinam village. We continue to the tiny hamlet of Hanumil.

Day 09 Hanumil - Purfi La (3950m) - Snertse (3850m) in 6h.

Up and down over a steep path.

Day 10 Snerstse - Hanuma La (4950m) - Lingshet (4000m) in 6h.

After a steep climb we reach the Purfi La pass, from where the panorama towards the Ladakhi and Zanskari ranges is quite impressive. Visit of Lingshet monastery.

Day 11 Lingshet - Camp before Singue La (4550m), in 6h.

We start a long and gradual ascent to the Netuke La pass (4280m), where we have a wonderful view towards the Nierag valley. The trail then descends shortly to reach Skimpata and Gongma villages, then climbs steeply to reach the second pass, Khyupa La (4300m).

Day 12 Camp before Singue La - Singue La (5050m) - Photoksar (4200m) in 6h.

An amazing spectacle of hanging icefalls. We descend towards the Photang river and progress through barley fields.

Day 13 Photoksar - Sirsir La (4850m) - Hanupatta (3760m) in 6h.

Photang valley turns into a gorge labyrinth, which forces us to make a detour via Sirsir La pass. Three shortens mark Hanupatta and its giant hundred-year-old cedar, flanked by colorful prayer flags.

Day 14 Hanupatta - Wanla (3250m) in 5h.

We head down towards the Photang valley ad climb up to the Panjila pass(3410m). We finally descend to Wanla and visit its tiny monastery.

Day 15 Wanla - Lamayuru (3420m) in 4h.

Visit of the monastery at Lamayuru, which is the biggest in western Ladakh and was built in the 16th century on the site of a much older temple. The gompa is very well kept and famous for its many colorful wall paintings.

Day 16 Lamayuru - Leh (3500m)

The first Lamayuru monastery was built under Rinchen Zangbo at the end of the 10th century, under orders from the king of Ladakh , who altogether had 108 Gompas built in west Tibet. It was built on the broken mountain in the valley and consisted of five buildings, of which only the central building stands today. One can still see some remains of the four corner buildings to the west

Day 17: Leh - Delhi

Afternoon Pickup from airport and transfer to hotel and evening rest and shopping.

Day 18 : Delhi

After Breakfast some shopping and afternoon drive to Delhi. evening transfer to the International airport for onward flight.
